The second semester of English I provides instruction for students in academic integrity, elements of language, a short novel, a document-based synthesis paper in MLA format, and a drama. Students will demonstrate understanding through self checks, quizzes, written reflections, vocabulary and language study, projects, major writing assignments, and unit tests. The intent of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to practice critical reading and writing skills.In English I, students will examine the elements of academic honesty. Students will learn the elements of a novel and learn to determine important themes and examine character development and choices. Students will also understand the writing process, and a portion of the course consists of their creating a document-based essay from this knowledge. Students will then study the rudiments of Shakespearean drama.
